Natural and National Parks in Almeria

Natural Park of Cabo de Gata - Nijar

Sierra Alhamilla Natural Park

40 km northeast of the city, this Natural Park covers an area of ​​8500 hectares. It is a subdesertic area and its main feature is that it is located on a mountain ridge shoreline. Species that can be seen here are: eagle, owl, alcarabán, Dupont's lark and Sison.

Albufera de Adra Natural Reserve

Southwest of the province, at the mouth of the River Adra. This natural reserve has an area of ​​65 hectares,there is a great variety of aquatic fauna. It is located on the coastal strip between the river and the plains of Adra Dahlias. Unfortunately the mining fever in Almeria which lasted until the twentieth century has not preserved well this natural area.

Nature Park Sorbas gypsum karst

Located at the northeast, between the mountains of Cabrera and the Filabres. It covers an area of ​​over 2000 hectares. It is a subdesertic area where you can see the effects of rain and climate throughout the centuries, with more than a thousand chambers and galleries it is one of the most important karst parks on the world. This natural park is a protected area since 1989 one of the most abundant species is the peregrine falcon.

Entinas Sabinar Nature Reserve

This Natural reserve is located near Roquetas de Mar, on the west coast. Its area is of 785 hectares. Beaches are protected by dunes.

Sierra Nevada Natural Park

The area of this Park belonging to the province of Almeria is located to the west of Almeria city and has an area of ​​140,000 hectares. It was declared a Natural Park in 1999 and houses the highest peak (3482 meters Mulhacén). It has 1700 species of trees (chamomile, thistle, daffodil for example) and a wide variety of wildlife: wild goat, wild boar, fox, vulture and golden eagle among other species.
