Balearic Islands

Balearic Islands are an amazing place to visit in the Mediterranean Sea. What today has become a major tourist destination, formerly (and speak more than ten centuries ago) it was a vital trading port in the Mediterranean.

Although the archipelago consists of five islands, Formentera and Cabrera are the two remaining, Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza stand out in size and interest. Still, the most notable characteristic of these islands is that they have something to offer to everyone. Mallorca is perfect for a cultural visit while Menorca and Ibiza are ideal for a romantic getaway or to party until the sunrise.

Of course, there is a common element in both, the uncontrollable beauty of white sandy beaches and clear waters. In each of the islands you will also find places where you can practice any sport, from scuba diving to cycling and horse riding.

Let´s take a preview of the most popular Islands in the Balearic Islands.

Majorca

Mallorca is the largest of the Balearic Islands and there is the capital, Palma de Mallorca. We mentioned that Mallorca is perfect for a cultural visit, in Palma we will find an architectural beauty.

Port de Soller in Majorca

Below we list some of the most important buildings:

However, when visiting Mallorca is highly recommended not just to stay in Palma, but getting to some of the surrounding villages. Perhaps the most important are Manacor, Soller and Andratx, but you will enjoy the coastline by getting anywhere on the Island.

In every corner you will find beautiful beaches and hidden coves where you can enjoy the sea and the sun peacefully: Cala Fornells, Cala d'Or, Cala Mendia, Cala Bóquer ... However, we must admit that Mallorca that attracts an almost infinite number of German and British tourists, so maybe sometime you will feel that you who are in another country ...

When getting to Mallorca take in consideration that Mallorca car hire is a must if you like visiting different areas of the island.

Minorca

Menorca is for many people the most beautiful island in the archipelago, and its beaches and coves have nothing to envy of the Caribbean. It is ideal for a romantic holiday with your partner or a few days of sun and relaxation with family. Moreover, in 1993 the island was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO because of its natural values and its environmental diversity.

You will find very nice people and some interesting places to visit in Menorca like Ciutadella (famous for their celebrations of San Juan), Mahon (Menorca's capital) or Binibeca (a small fishing village with whitewashed houses and narrow streets).

On the other side, you can also visit some very popular prehistoric remains on the island. The Des Naveta Tudons is considered the oldest building in Europe and every year receives thousands of visitors, while the Torre d'en Galmés and Torralba d'en Salord which are prehistoric settlements that have been preserved until today.

Still, the biggest attraction of the island are the Menorca beaches. Cala Galdana is one of the best known of the island for its beauty as it is an almost perfect semicircle with crystal clear water and white sand ... The only downside is that a few decades ago this beach attracted a few hotels in Menorca. Son Bou is the longest beach in Menorca and is completely open to the sea, so it is important not to ignore the flags to avoid any danger, especially when the winds are strong. The Beach Cala'n Porter, on the other hand, is protected from the wind by the cliffs that surround it.

Along the coast you can find incredible beaches and coves where you can enjoy sun and sea without many other tourists surrounding you. Remember that beaches and coves are not close to each other, Menorca car hire will make your trips more comfortable, and the island is small enough to cross from one side to another in a few time by car.

Ibiza

Of course, being another of the islands of the Balearic Islands, Ibiza is of extraordinary beauty. Its beaches and coves surprise anyone on the first visit, some of the best known are Ses Figueretas, Ibiza Town, Cala Salada and Cala Xarraca. In Ibiza you will also find the Natural Park of Ses Salines, considered World Heritage by UNESCO since 1999.

Anyway, despite the natural appeal of the island, the Ibiza nightlife is the most popular feature of the island.

Ibiza is often considered the world capital of fun, in Ibiza you can find some of the best clubs and best DJs in the world. Every summer the island is crowded with tourists looking for its nightlife, looking to have fun without worries.

Car hire in Ibiza is recommended, but if you decide to rent a car, we recommend to hire also the online insurance...car rental suppliers usually try to hardsell the insurance at a most expensivier rate than from us.

As you see every island has something to offer to any tourist, so it is the perfect destination for a vacation. Being such a popular destination, the prices of common products, including accommodation, are quite expensive (especially in Ibiza, where the entrance to the clubs in Ibiza usually cost  60 €).
